Catongo

FLAVOR PROFILE: exceedingly mild & Naked with but a sliver of bitter tannin

CHARACTERISTICS: an Amazon in disguise

Fabled cacáo of some mystique

A mutant albino-Amazon found mainly in southern Bahia, Brazil & often identified as a Porcelana because of whitish-colored cotyledons caused by the anthocyanin-inhibitor gene which translates into loss of pigment. DNA evidence suggests that Catongo originated in the Lower Amazon region from around the border of French Guiana toward Venezuela. Other than color, it share many similarities with Amelonado.
