FLAVOR PROFILE: primarily though not exclusively Naked cocoa; also some dairy; types vary between reds (cherries & sharp berries) versus orange-yellows (papaya, peaches, apricot); strapping nut woods (almond / hazelnut) with a spice element (cinnamon / clove)

CHARACTERISTICS: lower bitterness & astringency; generally dark, occasionally sharp & tart

Forms with neighboring valleys Chuao, Choroní, & Ocumare part of the Criollos chain along the North Central Venezuelan Coast. Modern Criollo hybrid similar to, but stronger than, nearby Ocumare.
